7th Graders, now is the time to add the title of YERD to all of your other middle school accomplishments. What is a Yerd? A Yerd is a proud yearbook nerd. The Newton Electronic Publishing class, responsible for producing our Yearbook, is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year. Visit Mr. Cohen's teacher page for more information and instructions on how to apply.

In case you missed Knight Notes auditions last week, you have a second chance on Wednesday, April 25 after school.  Call back auditions will be Friday, April 27 after school.  We have room for a few more ladies, and we really need a lot more MEN!  Remember, guys - girls love guys who sing!  Chances of getting into Knight Notes if you don't audition are zero, so give it a try!  Application forms are available online, and also outside the choir room door. Applications forms must be submitted before an audition time is scheduled.   See Ms. Andrews for details.

Reminder: The Do Something Club will be meeting on Friday morning in Mr. Franklin's room.  Come ready to chalk it up!

7th Graders interested in becoming WEB Leaders next year, if you were unable to come to Monday morning's WEB Leader interest meeting, there will be brief meetings after school today and Wednesday in room 311. The meetings will last only about 15 minutes, so you will need to make sure you have a way home.

Congratulations to the Lady Knights 7th grade volleyball team.  All three teams beat Euclid in their last match of the season.  A team started out a little slow, but by the second game, they dominated Euclid with their set ups and spikes.  The B and C teams took control immediately with their consistent serves.  Great job ladies.  Remember to turn in your jerseys to Ms. Plegge or Mrs. Rodrigue by Friday.

Thank you to Jack S. and Rees L who demonstrated their expertise in science and social studies through the use of technology at the spirit celebration on Saturday.  They visited with many parents and community members who were very impressed with their presentation.

Did you know that there are only 10 types of people in the world? Those who understand binary code and those who don't. If you actually get that joke or would like to find out why it's funny, you might want to join the new Beginning Computer Programming Knight Time starting next Wednesday. We will be looking at some different computer coding languages and start writing some simple programs. If you are interested in computer science, app and game design, or just want to figure out how the machine in front of you is doing what it is doing, this is for you. Please come by Mr. Cohen's room (311) and sign up for the Beginning Computer Programming Knight Time.

Congratulations to the 7th grade lady Knights volleyball team.  Newton kept the crowd on the edge of their seats before finally defeating Powell last Monday night.   All three teams came back from a first game loss to persevere and win the final match.  Great job ladies.  Please come and watch our lady knights in their final match against Euclid next Monday.

The 7th grade Lady Knights went up against Goddard last night in their first volleyball game of the season.  Although we didn't finish as strong as we would have liked, our lady Knights displayed an amazing amount of teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive attitude throughout the entire match.  They fought with integrity and pride and we are so proud of your effort!  

There will be no practice this Wednesday morning due to the late start day.  We will have a make up practice this Friday after school.  

Great job Lady Knights!

 Do you ever wonder how a middle school student like yourself can make a positive and lasting impact on the community and even the world?

Were you recently inspired by a video called Kony 2012?

 Do you ever wonder how a middle school student like yourself can make a positive and lasting impact on the community and even the world?

Do you like doughnuts?

 If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you need to join Newton’s DO SOMETHING club.

First meeting is Wednesday March 14 at 7:00 AM in Mr. Franklin’s Room (204)

If you are planning on attending or want to but unable to attend, please tell Mr. Franklin

If you could get out of class early and Paaarrrrtyyyy would you do it? Well student council has the answer for you! On Wednesday, March 21st we are having a spring dance! The dance starts at 2:05 and goes until 4pm.  Next week you can pay $3.00 to get into the dance OR turn in 6 CODE cards!  Bring your money or cards to lunch next week so you can come to the dance! A great DJ, games, drawings and  prizes will be be there! Don't miss out!

In honor of Newton’s 50^th anniversary, the PTO parents are sponsoring a contest for next year’s directory cover artwork.  All current 7^th grade Newton students are invited to participate.  The winning artist will be announced at the May recognition assembly.  Please see the mandatory guidelines that are posted on the website under the PTO tab or pick up a copy in the Art Room from Ms. Andrews or in the office.  Entries should be turned into the office.
