Attention Staff: It’s National Dice Day! Go to a pod staff room or Mrs. Andrews’ room during lunch today for some friendly competition. The game times are listed on your Holiday Cheer Calendar. All staff are welcome to join. The winner of each game gets a fabulous prize!

Attention 8ty grade boys. Basketball season is here. If you’re interested in playing on this year‘s team, our information meeting as well as first day of practice will be this Wednesday right after school from 4 to 5. At that meeting we will hand out all the paperwork and schedule for the upcoming season. If you have any questions, stop by and see Mr. Wilmes.

Hey Spellers! Don't forget to get your invitation to participate in our school spelling bee turned in. Your Language Arts teacher is anxious to collect that from you by, or before, Friday THIS WEEK. Don't miss this fun opportunity!

Congratulations to the 8th grade girls basketball team for the exciting win against Goddard on Saturday at the district tournament.  Today after school in room 0529 we will celebrate your season.  If you haven't returned your uniform please bring it with you.

Next week is Spirit Week!   Monday is Crazy Hat & Crazy Sock Day!

8th grade Lady Knight Basketball players, remember to meet Mr. Wilmes by the front office by 4:02 to board the bus for Goddard. 

 

Congratulations to both 7th grade girls basketball teams.  Both teams fought hard and defeated Euclid last night.  Esme led the A team with 12 points followed by Riley with 10 points.  B team was led by Alliyah and Marin each with 8 points.  Way to go Knights!  Come cheer them on next Monday in their final game against Goddard! 

 

What an amazing night at the 6th grade wrestling festival hosted by Powell Middle School! We had a small but mighty team as Eli Brown, Warren Musgrave, Wyatt Mansfield, and Lucas Hunter wrestled their opponents with aggressiveness  and power. We are excited to see these wrestlers next year as they have secured spots on the team. Great job Newton.

Attention Students:  The Yearbook Needs You!!

 

First, please fill out the student survey in your grade level google classroom.  We are looking for stories to tell and your answers can help us tell them.

 

Secondly, we need your pics.  What did you do this summer?  What sports and activities do you participate in outside of school?   Go to the link for HJE Share in your grade level google classrooms and enter our school code   go  "newton2023" and follow the prompts.  See Mr. Atherton or Mrs. Mater with questions.

 

It was a great snowy night on the hill at Goddard last night. The Newton wrestlers braved the elements to face off a second time against a fierce competitor. Each contest was a chess match for points and our wrestlers really had to use their skill and knowledge of the sport in order to be victorious. Special shout outs to Vincent Morales, Evan Wittern, Hank Sanders, Dillon Jones, Tobin Pratt, Israel Vera, Seth Thompson, Jacob Gillett, Levi Kamstra, and Thomas Brouillette. Great job 7th and 8th graders.

Do you have too much candy from Halloween?  Donate it to a great cause benefitting our local community.   Ford Elementary's Girls on the Run program is collecting candy to benefit local food pantries and troops overseas.  Every pound of candy donated equals $1 for this program.   Bring your extra candy to Mrs. Cosenza's room (1429) from now until November 9th!

7th and 8th grade No Place for Hate Coalition, you will NOT be presenting today. You will be presenting November2 instead in the 8th grade homerooms.

What a great first dual of the season on the hill at Goddard. 7th and 8th graders fought hard as we won so many matches with points and pins. One thing Goddard learned about the Newton wrestlers is that we never give up. Notable performances go to Tristan Breum, Gio Francisco, Dillon Jones, Zach Beckman, Jo Ritz, Levi Kamstra, Blake Baer, and Orion Rini. Great job everyone. We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday as we take on the Powell Pumas at home. See you then.

Congratulations to our 7th grade basketball teams on a great first game against Powell.  The Knights A team crushed it with a 30-22 win over the Powell A team.  Riley Berry and Esme Gibbons led the way with a combined 21 points.  The Knights B team lost in a close battle 16-11 with Aaliyah Ballesteros and Jenna Stutz leading the way with a combined total of 7 points.  Way to go Lady Knights!

The Green Knights will be coming to collect your classroom recycling every Friday during Knight. Time. Please make sure to put the following items in your recycle bin: plastic bottles, containers, cardboard, glass containers and soda cans. Please do not put plastic bags, food or liquids, styrofoam cups or containers in a recycling container. 

Another wonderful wrestling practice under our belts yesterday. Our next practice is on Monday, if you are interested please come join us, we'd love to have you.

There will be a mandatory NJHS meeting in Ms. Omdahl's room after school TODAY.  We will be discussing more volunteer opportunities and choosing our officers.  Please wear your shirt to school on Thursday.  Thank you for your service to our community. 

Calling all Newton Knights! We had a wonderful showing for our first wrestling practice. We could still use a few more bodies to round out our team. If you are interested in trying the sport, play other sports and want to add this to your athletic resume, or a seasoned wrestler who is considering wrestling for the school, please come and talk to us. We would love at least 10 more 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. We will also work with your schedule if you are finishing football, running club, play an instrument, or any other activities.  Next practice is today after school in the large gym. See you soon.
