January 17th, 2025

I hope you are able to stay safe and warm this weekend as the weather rolls in!  Reminder, we do not have school on Monday as we will be honoring MLK Day and please keep an eye out for a Tuesday morning message if the temps are too cold… We look forward to a great week with your students!

Littleton Public Schools Foundation "Grants to Educators" program

A quick shoutout to the Littleton Public Schools Foundation Grants to Educators program.  Mrs. Bright, Mr. Worsley and Mr. Andrews were all given grants in their classrooms to purchase materials to support students' learning, totaling over $2200.  Extremely grateful to the Foundation and Stefanie Carroll, Executive Director of the LPSF!

CODE SHOP DONATIONS

Please click this sign up genius LINK to sign up to purchase some items for our CODE Shop! Our PBIS initiative needs your support and have asked that donations be dropped off at Newton by Jan 27th.   Thank you to all of you that keep showing up for our school with regards to buying these items!

SPELLING BEE

Our finalists for the Spelling Bee have been identified and notified that they will have a written test after school on Tuesday, Jan 21 from 3:30-4:30.  The Spelling Bee, itself, will be on the stage after school at 4pm.  Mr. Wyckhuyse, Mrs. Gambrell and Ms. Moore will be the judges and Mrs. Winschuh will be the MC.  We are excited to have the students compete.  Parents are welcome to come watch on the Learning Stairs!

If you know anyone interested in Open Enrolling at Newton…

We will be getting our staffing for the 2025-26 school year soon, so anyone interested in open enrolling needs to do so asap, to have a chance to attend Newton next school year.  Please nudge them so they don’t miss the opportunity.  After I get my staffing for next year, I will not be accepting any new applications.  Click Here for Open Enrollment Information.

Our Awards Assembly will take place THIS Wednesday, Jan 22

We will have our Awards assembly at Newton on Wednesday Jan 22.

Our Grade Level assembly schedule is:

6th grade - 9:30 am

8th grade - 10:45 am

7th grade - 2:00 pm

Since we are grading differently this year, our assembly will look different as we do not have letter grades, so there is no grade point average and hence, no honor roll to achieve.  That being said, we have some other awards that we will be giving out and that information is detailed here:  January Awards Assembly

We will be giving out 100’s of awards, so we will not be alerting families if their child will be receiving one or not, as it is not a possibility.  That being said, if you look in the parent portal, you can see if your child would qualify for the Work Habits Merit Award  (See the January Awards Assembly link above).

High School Registration information for our 8th graders

On Tuesday Jan 28, at 10am, BOTH Arapahoe HS and Littleton HS will be here at Newton to meet with our students that will be attending their schools next year and go over how to register for their classes for the upcoming school year.  The Arapahoe incoming freshman will meet on the learning stairs and the Littleton incoming freshman will meet in the PD Rooms.  Students that are not attending either class will stay in their elective classrooms.  Students will attend the registration for the school they are aligned to go to as of Jan 28.  If you are waiting to hear back from a school that you have attempted to open enroll, your child will attend the one that they are CURRENTLY aligned to go to.

You Gotta Have Faith

You Gotta Have Faith club meets again this Friday morning.  This is a student-led club where students come together to celebrate their Christian beliefs and embrace the love of God! Everyone is welcome—no matter who you are or where you’re from! Students will share a brief message from fellow kids, pray together, and lift each other up with support and encouragement. Come as you are and experience the joy of community and faith! Friday mornings in room 0527 (Mr. Wood’s room), 7:55-8:15 AM.

Student Council is excited to announce our first winter dance! We will host a DJ dance party on Tuesday, February 4, in Newton's gym. For a chance to get in early at 3PM, students must buy tickets - either $3 or 6 CODE cards - during lunches from January 27-31. These are the only early admission tickets that will be sold! You can also buy your ticket at the door at 3:30, and we'll boogie down until 4:30! There will be light snacks for purchase - cash ONLY - if you need to refuel! No need to dress up, come as you are. Details will be available in morning announcements.

PARENTS: Please consider volunteering to help with this event by signing up through our sign up link. We need support with set up, take down, supervision, and some stations at the dance. On behalf of all student council members, thank you to the students, admin, and community for supporting this first-time event!  Sincerely your co-sponsors, Mrs. Sutton and Mrs. Jenkins
