Get ready to show your school spirit and support our Unified Basketball Team as they hit the court! Join us as we celebrate inclusion, teamwork, and sportsmanship at our Unified Basketball game today at Euclid
What a great weekend to be a Newton Knight! The eighth grade boys basketball teams finished off the weekend with the city tournament and all three games were very exciting.
The B team started the day off battling Euclid middle school. We started off slow but battled our way back to take the lead. With 30 seconds to go Euclid managed to throw in a three point shot off the backboard to jump back ahead. We had a great look at the end to tie the game but it just rimmed in and out.
In the second game the A-Team was taking on Powell middle school for third place. The game started off as a defensive struggle as neither team could really score. The score was 4-2 as the first quarter horn sounded and Quinn Nelson was going to the free-throw line for two free throws. Quinn's 2 made free throws started a 30-0 run by the Newton Knights against Powell. The highlight of the run was Rex Marshall hitting back to back t0 back shots causing the team from Powell to call timeout. Wyatt Eikenbary, Quinn Nelson, and Reese Gordon's lockdown defense on the Puma guards left little doubt as to who would win the game and the Newton Knights ended up taking third place
The final game of the afternoon was the C team championship game. The game was close and the teams battled back-and-forth. After a slow start to the first half the Knights were down 10-2 at halftime. However in the second half they held Powell completely scoreless and led the game 12-10 with five seconds to go and Powell had the ball underneath the basket. Powell had time for one final shot but the winning rebound was secured by Miles Lawton. The C team is your eighth grade city champions for 2025!
Great season boys and we're glad that you all came out. Please begin turning in your uniforms, cleaned or uncleaned to Mr. Wilmes ASAP. We will have a donut party later this week.
