What a great weekend to be a Newton Knight! The eighth grade boys basketball teams finished off the weekend with the city tournament and all three games were very exciting.

The B team started the day off battling Euclid middle school. We started off slow but battled our way back to take the lead. With 30 seconds to go Euclid managed to throw in a three point shot off the backboard to jump back ahead. We had a great look at the end to tie the game but it just rimmed in and out.

In the second game the A-Team was taking on Powell middle school for third place. The game started off as a defensive struggle as neither team could really score. The score was 4-2 as the first quarter horn sounded and Quinn Nelson was going to the free-throw line for two free throws. Quinn's 2 made free throws started a 30-0 run by the Newton Knights against Powell. The highlight of the run was Rex Marshall hitting back to back t0 back shots causing the team from Powell to call timeout. Wyatt Eikenbary, Quinn Nelson, and Reese Gordon's lockdown defense on the Puma guards left  little doubt as to who would win the game and the Newton Knights ended up taking third place

The final game of the afternoon was the C team championship game. The game was close and the teams battled back-and-forth. After a slow start to the first half the Knights were down 10-2 at halftime. However in the second half they held Powell completely scoreless and led the game 12-10 with five seconds to go and Powell had the ball underneath the basket. Powell had time for one final shot but the winning rebound was secured by Miles Lawton. The C team is your eighth grade city champions for 2025!

Great season boys and we're glad that you all came out. Please begin turning in your uniforms, cleaned or uncleaned to Mr. Wilmes ASAP. We will have a donut party later this week.

Congratulations goes out to the boys eighth grade A basketball team on their victory last night over the Puymas from Powell Middle School. The boys came out fast and furious and the game was never in doubt as the final score was 45 - 30 Zach Van Noy led the way with 13 points and Fisher Faust had 11 points including 3 three-point shots. The A-Team hit a total of seven three-point shots during the game. Nice job boys!

The B team came out aggressive and left little doubt as to the outcome of the game. Scoring was balanced throughout the team with many players scoring at least one basket and nobody scoring more than five total points in the 3514 victory. Nice job Knights!

In the nightcap, the C team played hard and battled throughout the game, but came up just a bit short in the end. It was definitely not from a lack of effort and intensity that the Knights were not able to overcome Powell.

Our last home game of the season is next Monday after school when Newton takes on Options. This game starts earlier than most with a 4:00 tip off, so we hope to see everybody there!

Thank you for all the fans that came out and cheered on the boys basketball team last night in their games against Goddard. The A-Team had by far the best game of the season and battled hard all the way throughout the game. They came up just a bit short in the end, but are starting to peak at the right time as playoffs begin next week.

The B team played fantastic defense and defeated Goddard by score of 11 - 9. In a frantic final 20 seconds Lucas Hunter made a diving play on the ball and Zain Jordan shut down their best offensive player to seal the victory.

In the final game of the evening, the C team was in a close game the entire night. The lead went back-and-forth and the Knights got the ball back with 15 seconds to go in the game. Yaxel Villanueva drove the link to the court and scored the winning basket with four seconds to go. Way to go Knights!

Our next home game is this Thursday against Powell.
